My 2008 Audi A4 vs. Dynolicious App

Date: July 2nd, 2009  Category: Things  Tags: , ,   [ View Comments ]

Dynolicious is an iPhone/iPod Touch application that utilizes the built-in accelerometer of those devices to calculate your cars speed, acceleration, “G’s”, horsepower, and some other cool stuff. So, I decided to see how my 2008 Audi A4 SE would stack up performance wise against what’s reported by the manufacturer.

A few quick notes before we look at how I did:

OK, now on to the fun stuff. I have a 2008 Audi A4 SE with a 2.0L turbo charged engine and a 6-speed manual transmission. It’s rated at 200 HP and Audi says the 6-speed manual version can do 0-60 MPH in 6.8 second. Pretty damn quick for a fuel efficient 4-cylinder engine (averages 21 MPG)! Those crazy Germans…

Anyway, on my best run I was able to produce 203 HP at a maximum speed of 100.1 MPH. My 1/4 mile time was 15.73 seconds while my 0-60 MPH time was 7.86 seconds. Not as fast as the car can go apparently, but I was happy considering it’s me behind the wheel and this is my daily driver ;-)

Not only does Dynolicious provide all kinds of real-time info while driving it also logs it all and creates great looking graphs which you can download and save. All in all pretty cool stuff…
